Wayne Gemmill was saved at 3:00 a.m. August 18, 1980 while working as the Operations Director for TM Marine on the New York area water front.
He joined Southgate Baptist Church after moving to Friendswood in November 1983 and was baptized. There he began a course of studies under the direction of Dr. Quentin King, Pastor John Duckett, Dr. Pat Powell, and Missionary Charles Nixon. He also worked on correspondence courses through Dothan Bible College and Seminary.
After meeting his wife, Faye, at Southgate Baptist Church, they were married October 19, 1984. They have nine children (two of them adopted), 23 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
Wayne has a heart for missions. Between 1984 and 1990 he made several missionary field trips to work with Charles Nixon on the Indian Reservations in Montana, the Dakotas, and the Swan Lake Reservation in Canada. He has been a long-time friend and supporter of Samuel Nolasco in Honduras and has visited the mission there several times.
He was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1990 before organizing Victory Baptist Church where he served as Pastor for 17 years. Wayne served two years on the Missions Board of the Independent Baptist Fellowship and two years as Regional Moderator for Texas and the Great Southwest. He and his wife joined Bayou Drive Baptist Church in 2008 after resigning his pastorate because of poor health.
Wayne joined our staff in 2014 as Associate Minister of Member Care. Wayne and Faye have demonstrated their heart for people and hospitality since they have been in fellowship with our church. They work tirelessly to care for members in need through hospital and home visitation, benevolence, and overall encouragement. Wayne also leads our staff and church in developing a culture of warmth and hospitality to those who God calls to join our fellowship.
