We are excited to introduce to you the
ministries and people of Bayou Drive Baptist Church. We're here in
this community because we love Alvin and its people. More
importantly, Jesus loves the people of Alvin and is using His Church to
spread the message of His good news.
A Little History...
Bayou Drive Baptist Mission began on
July 27, 1965 as a mission of Southview Missionary Baptist Church of
Houston. Bro. Horace Hobbs was the mission's pastor, and the first
service was held in Horace and Mary Hobbs' home with ten people
present. The first soul saved at the Mission was Mrs. Patricia
Garrett. Mrs. Garret was saved in the morning worship service on
August 1, 1965, just two weeks after The Mission began.
The first baptism of The Mission was
also Mrs. Garrett, for which Central Baptist Church in Texas City
gave the use of their baptistry on September 5th. The
Mission's heart for missionaries began beating on March 6, 1966 as
they voted to begin supporting home and foreign missionaries. The
Mission was renamed by vote on November 6, 1966, and became Bayou
Drive Baptist Church. The church was formally organized on June 18,
1967.
Who Are We Now?...
Our church consists of several different nationalities as well as a
membership of people across all age groups. We maintain a strong
emphasis in expository Bible preaching that is relevant to the lives and
circumstances of all who gather for worship. We are continually working
to hold fast to the traditions that are healthy while following the
leadership of the Holy Spirit to make us flexible to change in areas
that make us more like Christ.

We give our first and best of the week for the sole purpose of
glorifying God. Through enthusiastic music and
expository Bible
preaching, we desire to proclaim Christ as Lord, God, and King. Soli
Deo gloria!

The work of sanctification is a process in which God grows His people
into the image of Christ. We encourage one another in small intimate
groups to grow in His grace. Learn more about our
Bible study fellowship groups. Sola gratia!

Our obedience to Christ also involves reaching others with the gospel of
Christ's redemptive sacrifice. Through visitation and evangelism we pray
that many will come to the knowledge of salvation. Sola fide!
We want you to feel welcome at Bayou Drive Baptist Church. Others
have told us that Bayou Drive is one of the friendliest churches they
have ever experienced. If you find that to be true, and we hope
you will, it is because we love the Lord Jesus, and we love those He
sends us to watch and care for.
If you are looking for a church where believers are challenged in the
practical issues of life, and a church where Christ is preeminent,
please accept this invitation to
worship with us. |
